Which is Better… Laser Printers versus Inkjet Printers

Are you in the market for a printer? If so, you have a lot of choices. Today, there is a wide variety of both laser and inkjet printers. Each printer has its distinct advantages.

Laser Printers

Today, the laser printer is widely used in business. For many years, the black and white laser has dominated the market. However, within the past few years, the laser color printer has become more affordable and thus more popular. Lasers use toner to print onto the written page. Using a static electric charge, toner particles are placed on the drum to form letters and images as the drum rotates within the printer.

Lasers can print many more pages than the inkjet printer. In fact, the average laser toner cartridge prints several thousand pages. This makes the average cost per page printed on a laser much cheaper than an inkjet printer. The laser has two additional advantages over the inkjet. First, it prints much faster. Second, it prints on a very wide variety of paper and labels.

However, the laser also has two disadvantages. First, the cost of the laser printer is much higher than the cost of an inkjet printer. Second, the cost per printer cartridge is also much higher. If you do a lot of printing, you will find the total cost is cheaper using a laser printer. To help reduce your printer cost, you should purchase high quality discount toner cartridges. These toner cartridges will print as many pages as you original cartridge, but at a greatly reduced cost per page.

Inkjet Printers

The inkjet printer is the most popular printer on the market. Inkjets, as they are commonly called, place tiny droplets of ink onto a page to create letters and images. Theses droplets are very small, less than the diameter of a hair. Because they are so small, they are measured in terms called “Microns”. These ink droplets are then placed close together to form images. The number of droplets used by the inkjet printer is referred to as dpi, or dot per inch.

Inkjets use one or more printer cartridges to form superior quality text and images. If the inkjet printer has a different cartridge for each color, then it is much more cost effective to operate, because you can use all the ink in the cartridge before replacing it. When a single cartridge has multiple colors and one color is used up, you have to replace the entire cartridge, thus increasing your cost per cartridge.

Inkjet printers are much cheaper to buy than the laser printer. The Inkjet produces very good quality print and images.

The main disadvantage of the inkjet printer is the cost of the cartridges. It is common to pay much more for ink cartridges than you pay for the printer. To keep control of your printer budget and reduce your overall cost, you should purchase high quality discount ink cartridges. These discount cartridges will print as many or more pages than your original, but will save you half or more on your printing cost.
