What are Printer Drivers? Printer Software that tells your computer how to communicate with your printer is referred to as a printer driver. The printer driver is normally installed onto your computer when you purchase a printer. If you purchased both a printer and computer together, it is possible that the printer driver is already installed onto your computer. As technology improves, a printer driver is updated. It is always a good idea to update your computer with the most current printer driver for your printer. A printer driver tells the computer such things as how your printer works, how it can access your printer, what size paper your printer can handle, what print quality or resolution should be used when printing, etc. The new operating systems, such as Windows XP, are quite good about being able to detect what printer is attached to your computer and then automatically installing the printer driver for that specific printer. There are several resources on the Internet that provide you with the most current printer drivers for almost every brand of printer. Here is one of the most comprehensive sites you should check out.
